The Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences (IAS) of the University of Macau cordially invites you to participate in the “1st International Conference” on Digital Literacy and the “5th Annual Conference” on Shaping the Future of Digital Literacy: Concepts, Evaluation, and Inclusion from November 19 to 20, 2025.

Conference Theme

As digital technologies become ever more embedded in the fabric of daily life, questions surrounding digital literacy have assumed critical urgency. This year’s conference seeks to re-examine the evolving definitions, frameworks, and practices that shape digital literacy across diverse social, cultural, and technological landscapes. Through a multidisciplinary and globally comparative lens, we will explore not only the theoretical underpinnings of digital competence and digital humanism, but also assess the standards and methodologies used to evaluate such competencies in varied contexts. By interrogating both foundational concepts and emergent paradigms, the conference aims to clarify the role of digital literacy in an era defined by rapid technological change and socio-political transformation. This year’s panels will address a wide array of themes, this conference offers a platform for critical dialogue and collaborative inquiry, bringing together scholars, educators, technologists, and policymakers committed to advancing inclusive and ethically grounded digital futures.

Objective

This conference aims to critically examine the evolving concept of digital literacy through interdisciplinary dialogue and empirically through grounded research.

It seeks to assess current frameworks, as well as to address regional and socio-demographic disparities and explore the ethical dimension of digital technologies. By fostering exchange between scholars, practitioner and policymakers, the conference aspires to foster inclusive approaches to digital literacy in an increasingly digitised world.
